Student answer (Band 6.5)
The table provides data on the total visitors of Ashdown Museum before and after it was refurbished, and the pie chart compares the visitors satisfaction levels.
Overall, the figures for visitors to the museum increased significantly after it was refurbished. Moreover, the level of satisfaction went up, while the level of dissatisfaction decreased. However, the proportion of people who didn't responded remained unchanged.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the data, including the increase in visitor numbers and the shift in satisfaction levels. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with relevant data from the table and charts. However, there are some inaccuracies in your data reporting. For instance, you stated that the 'very dissatisfied' category decreased to 15% and 'dissatisfied' to 5%, but the charts show these figures were 15% and 5% respectively before, and changed to 5% and 10% after. Additionally, your calculation of the increase in 'very satisfied' (15% to 35%) as '20%' is correct, but the phrasing could be more precise. Ensure you double-check your data extraction to avoid misrepresenting the provided information.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information by category. You use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Regarding' to guide the reader through the text. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the visitor numbers from the satisfaction survey results. While the flow is generally good, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To reach a higher band, ensure that the progression of ideas is smoother and that referencing (e.g., 'the former', 'the latter') is used with absolute clarity to avoid any ambiguity regarding which data point is being discussed.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'refurbished', 'proportion', 'significantly', and 'satisfaction levels'. There are some minor errors, such as 'didn't responded' (should be 'did not respond') and 'Ashdowm' (spelling error). You also used 'exponentially' to describe a change in percentages, which is an inappropriate collocation in this context; 'significantly' or 'sharply' would be more accurate. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring correct word forms and spelling throughout your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'the total visitors of Ashdown Museum' (should be 'the total number of visitors to...'), 'didn't responded' (should be 'did not respond'), and 'After the refurbishments made to the museum the former increased...' (missing a comma after the introductory phrase). While these errors are present, they do not impede communication. To achieve a higher score, aim for greater control over complex sentence structures and ensure consistent subject-verb agreement and punctuation.
