Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, including the visitor numbers and the satisfaction levels. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, while you mention the increase in visitor numbers from 74,000 to 92,000, you do not provide a clear comparison of the satisfaction categories (Very Satisfied, Satisfied, etc.) beyond general statements. The description of the satisfaction data is repetitive and lacks precision, particularly in how you describe the 'accumulative' dissatisfaction. To reach a higher band, ensure you clearly contrast the specific categories across both years rather than just making broad generalizations about satisfaction levels.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into three paragraphs, which is appropriate for a report. However, the logical flow is hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical use of cohesive devices. Phrases like 'In the outset' and 'Afterwards' are used incorrectly or unnaturally in this context. While there is an attempt to sequence information, the progression between sentences is often disjointed. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two periods. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would significantly enhance the clarity of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You rely on basic terms such as 'numbers', 'results', and 'satisfied'. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'pie table' (it is a table and pie charts) and 'accumulatively', which is not the most natural choice for describing survey data. Additionally, there are grammatical errors involving word forms, such as 'the visitors in year before refurbishment has been the highest dissatisfaction'. To improve, you should aim to use more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'category', 'significant increase', or 'marked shift'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the numbers... demonstrate'), article usage (e.g., 'in after year refurbishment'), and sentence structure (e.g., 'the visitors in year before refurbishment has been the highest dissatisfaction'). The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some errors in basic syntax. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, and using articles correctly. Reducing these frequent errors is essential for moving to a higher band.
