Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified some main features, such as the increase in visitor numbers and changes in satisfaction levels, the analysis is superficial. You have not provided specific data points from the table or charts to support your claims, making the report vague. For instance, stating 'a significant rise' without mentioning the actual figures (74,000 to 92,000) prevents the reader from understanding the scale of change. To improve, ensure you include specific data and provide a more comprehensive overview of all trends presented in the visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into short paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive, such as the use of 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Thirdly'. The logical progression is hindered by the lack of detailed data, making the transition between points feel abrupt. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall flow is limited by the brevity of the response. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph develops a clear, cohesive idea supported by the provided evidence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range expected at higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'rise', 'amount', and 'reduced'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'the dissatisfaction of people reduced' and 'the amount of very satisfied individuals tend to reduced'. These errors do not impede communication, but they demonstrate a limited control over academic vocabulary. To improve, focus on using more precise reporting verbs and nouns, such as 'fluctuated', 'proportion', 'declined', or 'experienced a surge'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures. However, there are several grammatical inaccuracies that affect the quality of the writing. For example, 'the refurbishment's effect on the visitors' is slightly awkward, and 'the amount of very satisfied individuals tend to reduced' contains a subject-verb agreement error and an incorrect verb form. Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure is often simplistic. To improve, work on using a wider variety of complex sentence structures and ensure subject-verb agreement is consistent throughout your writing.
