Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response effectively addresses all parts of the task. You have provided a clear overview of the main trends, noting both the increase in visitor numbers and the shift in satisfaction levels. The data is accurately selected and reported, with relevant comparisons made between the two periods. The figures are correctly cited, and the key features of the table and charts are highlighted appropriately. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview is even more integrated with the specific data points in the body paragraphs, though your current approach is already very strong and meets the requirements for a high band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that group information by category. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you have used cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'by comparison', 'similarly', and 'in contrast' effectively to link sentences and clauses. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the visitor numbers from the satisfaction survey results. The flow of information is natural, and the referencing is clear throughout the text, making the report easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information with precision. Phrases such as 'rose to', 'increased substantially', 'declined considerably', and 'remained unchanged' are used accurately and appropriately for a data-reporting task. There is a good awareness of style, and the vocabulary is varied enough to avoid repetition. While the range is solid, incorporating a few more sophisticated collocations or nuanced descriptors could further enhance the lexical quality. Overall, the vocabulary is precise and contributes to a clear, professional tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a good control of grammatical structures. You have successfully used a mix of simple and complex sentences, such as the use of 'whereas' and 'while' to create contrast. However, there is a minor subject-verb agreement error in the first sentence: 'The table and pie charts illustrates' should be 'illustrate'. Additionally, 'in the year before and its refurbishment' is slightly awkward; 'in the year before and after its refurbishment' would be more accurate. Despite these minor slips, the majority of your sentences are error-free, and the grammar does not impede communication.
