Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task by reporting on visitor numbers and satisfaction levels. However, the information is presented in a confusing and often inaccurate manner. For example, the claim that 'no response was least down' is unclear, and the description of the satisfaction percentages is difficult to follow, making it hard for the reader to grasp the main trends. While the total visitor numbers (74,000 and 92,000) are correctly identified, the analysis of the survey data lacks clarity and precision. The response fails to clearly highlight the key differences between the two periods, resulting in a disjointed summary that does not fully meet the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. The progression of ideas is often illogical, particularly in the second paragraph where data points are listed without clear transitions or comparative analysis. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'then' and 'the percentage was'. Referencing is also problematic; for instance, the phrase 'the other' is used repeatedly without a clear antecedent, which makes the text difficult to follow. The conclusion is very brief and does not effectively synthesize the information provided in the body paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. The student relies heavily on basic terms like 'number', 'result', 'satisfied', and 'percentage'. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'high rised', 'least down', and 'near about'. These errors, combined with the lack of precise terminology to describe trends (e.g., 'increased', 'decreased', 'fluctuated'), hinder the clarity of the report. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic topic, but it lacks the precision and variety expected for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, such as 'The pie chart shows that the number of the visitors to visiting the Ashdown museum before the year that the surveys of visitors satisfaction.' Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, and there is a lack of control over complex sentence structures. Punctuation is also problematic, with many run-on sentences and missing articles. While the meaning can generally be inferred, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar makes the text difficult to read and limits the range of structures used.
