Student answer (Band 6.0)
The topic illustrates the number of visitors to the Ashdown Museum during the year before and after it was refurbished and also represents the result of a survey asking visitors how satisfied they were with their visit during the same two periods.
Overall, the highest proportion of visitors to the Ashdown museum during the year after refurbishment as compared to before refurbishment. Meanwhile, the result of surveys of visitors' satisfaction level is high in the dissatisfied category before refurbishment or high in the after-satisfied list and drops down in the no-response category before or after refurbishment.
Firstly, the 74,000 numbers of visitors visit the museum during the year before refurbishment and slightly increased up to 92,000 after refurbishment.
However, the results of the survey of visitors' satisfaction level are very satisfied up to 15% before or 35% after. In addition, the satisfied ratio was higher up to 30% to 40% before or after refurbishment.
By contrast, the dissatisfied results before refurbishment peaked at 40% and marginally decreased up to 14% after. Furthermore, the very dissatisfied are 10% in the year before and after 5% which are stable in the no response category before or after.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the data, including the visitor numbers and the satisfaction survey results. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview. While you mention the increase in visitors and the shift in satisfaction, the summary is slightly disjointed. For example, the statement 'the highest proportion of visitors... during the year after' is grammatically incomplete and unclear. To improve, ensure that your overview synthesizes the data rather than just listing it. You have successfully identified the key trends, but the comparison between the two periods could be more effectively integrated to show a clearer relationship between the refurbishment and the change in visitor sentiment.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'However', and 'By contrast' to signal transitions. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'the satisfied ratio was higher up to 30% to 40%'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to determine exactly which data point is being compared. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that sentences connect more fluidly would enhance the overall coherence. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal logical progression needs more refinement to achieve a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the main points. You use terms like 'refurbished', 'proportion', and 'satisfaction level' correctly. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'after-satisfied list' and 'no-response category', which sound unnatural. There is also some repetition of basic structures. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'experienced a rise', 'a significant shift', or 'remained stable'. Expanding your range of collocations will help you express comparisons with greater precision and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that affect the quality of the writing. For instance, 'the 74,000 numbers of visitors visit' is redundant and grammatically incorrect. Additionally, phrases like 'the very dissatisfied are 10% in the year before and after 5%' lack proper verb usage and clarity. There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your sentences are complete and grammatically sound. Reducing these frequent minor errors will significantly improve your score.
