Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to cover all parts of the task by reporting visitor numbers and survey results for both the pre- and post-refurbishment periods. An overall trend is identified, noting that visitor numbers increased alongside higher satisfaction rates. However, the reporting of specific figures contains inaccuracies and confusion. For instance, the student states that 40 percent were dissatisfied, 30 percent satisfied, 15 percent very satisfied, and 10 percent dissatisfied again, which appears confused. The total percentage figures do not add up coherently, and the distinction between the categories is muddled in the third paragraph. While the main features are touched upon, the lack of precision and confusing data representation prevents the response from achieving a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is divided into four paragraphs, attempting an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for the two periods. However, the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by poor cohesive devices and abrupt transitions, such as 'Taken before and after the refurbishment of the place' and 'Follwing after the refurbishment'. Referencing is at times unclear, and pronouns or cohesive links fail to guide the reader smoothly through the data comparisons. Paragraphing is attempted structurally, but internal logical progression is weak, resulting in disjointed and mechanical flow that aligns best with Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate vocabulary range to discuss the topic, employing words such as 'refurbishment', 'satisfaction', and 'survey'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'response of visitor satisfaction', 'majorly were dissatisfied', 'less visits', and 'dropeed more than half'. The repetition of basic terms and imprecise collocations places the response firmly in the Band 5 category, as these errors occasionally cause difficulty or confusion for the reader in interpreting the specific data points.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and attempting complex sentence forms, such as 'Whereas compared to the changes before, the visitors were less satisfied...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The chart and table given illustrates'), fragment sentences ('Taken before and after the refurbishment of the place.'), and spelling mistakes ('Follwing', 'dissatified', 'dropeed'). Control over punctuation and sentence structure is limited, and these recurring errors cause difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar score at Band 5.
