Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of both the table and the pie charts, noting overall trends such as the increase in visitor numbers and the shift in satisfaction levels following the renovation. Key data points are selected and reported, such as the initial large proportion of dissatisfied visitors (40%) and the post-renovation dominance of 'very satisfied' and 'satisfied' categories (35% and 40% respectively). However, the overview is somewhat weak, as it is integrated poorly into the introduction without fully synthesising the main trends across both visual prompts. Additionally, some data descriptions are slightly repetitive or imprecise, but all parts of the task are adequately addressed. This aligns well with the requirements for Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with logical progression from the visitor numbers table to the satisfaction surveys. However, paragraphing is poorly handled, with several sentences clumped into inadequate or run-on paragraphs (e.g., separating single-sentence paragraphs like 'dissatisfied made up of 15%' awkwardly). Cohesive devices are used, but mechanical phrasing such as 'in overall' and repetitive use of 'in contrast' highlight a lack of flexible linking. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making transitions between ideas occasionally bumpy. These issues place the response firmly at Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items related to data reporting and surveys, such as 'proportion', 'ratio', and 'satisfaction levels'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, including 'tourists number who visits' instead of 'number of tourists who visited', 'following year of it', and a major typo/repetition error where 'very satisfied' is listed twice in contrast to the first period. Spelling and word choice are generally sufficient to convey meaning, but errors occasionally cause strain. This performance is typical of Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Dissatisfied tourists shows', 'satisfied people contributes', 'no response category remain'), missing articles ('after renovation period'), and awkward prepositional usage ('in both times'). Punctuation is also neglected, with missing capitalisation at the start of sentences and erratic spacing. While communication is not entirely impeded, the high frequency of errors prevents the response from achieving a higher band. Therefore, a score of 5.0 is appropriate.
