Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student makes an attempt to summarise the data provided in both the table and the pie charts, mentioning the visitor numbers (74,000 and 92,000) and the satisfaction percentages. However, the selection of main features is rather basic and includes several inaccuracies in interpreting the data. For instance, the feedback percentages are confused in places, and the descriptions lack a fully developed overview. The overview states that 'after the refurbishment more people were visit the side of Ashdown Museum,' which captures a main trend, but the overall response remains somewhat limited in its development and precision, aligning closely with a Band 5 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organised into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for the details. However, logical progression is frequently hindered by awkward phrasing and poor mechanical cohesion. Transition phrases such as 'On the other side,' 'To begin with,' and 'On the other hand' are used inappropriately for reporting statistical data. Referencing and referencing links between sentences are weak, causing the reader to struggle at times to follow the comparison of visitor satisfaction between the two periods. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion of the text is faulty and repetitive, placing it firmly at Band 5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms like 'people,' 'museum,' 'year,' and 'satisfaction' descriptors. There are numerous word choice and collocation errors, such as 'respesents the ratio of traveller,' 'how enjoyed they were,' 'were visit the side,' and 'no give feedback.' Less common lexical items are attempted but used incorrectly (e.g., 'redeveloped' instead of 'refurbished'). These errors occasionally impede communication and restrict the range of vocabulary to a minimally adequate level, reflecting a Band 4.5 to 5 descriptor profile, warranting a 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and flawed complex constructions. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense issues, passive voice misuse, and subject-verb agreement problems (e.g., 'most people's feedback were dissatisfied,' 'more people were visit,' 'the total number of people were visited'). Punctuation and word forms are also unreliable. These persistent errors cause frequent strain for the reader and demonstrate weak control over basic grammatical structures, corresponding to a Band 4.5 or 5.0.
