Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to address the prompt by summarizing the main features of both the table and the pie chart regarding the Ashdown Museum. However, the overview is rather superficial and lacks precise numerical data from the charts, such as the exact visitor numbers from the table. While the main trends are mentioned, such as the increase in visitors and the shift in satisfaction levels, some details are vague or imprecise, matching the descriptors for Band 5.0 where the response addresses the task only partially and ideas are limited or under-developed. Key data points like the exact visitor numbers (e.g., 2,500 to 4,800) are omitted in favor of generalized statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is organized into four paragraphs, attempting an overall structure with an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and poor cohesive devices. For example, transitional phrases like 'Initially' and 'Furthermore' are used mechanically and do not accurately reflect chronological or logical relationships between the data sets. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is faulty, and referencing is often unclear (e.g., 'the exact two periods'). This aligns closely with Band 5.0 descriptors, where there is some organization but no clear overall progression and cohesive devices are inadequate or inaccurate.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive, with noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text. Examples include 'Meuseum' (museum), 'patron' instead of patrons, 'gratified' instead of satisfied, and 'risen up' instead of increased significantly. The range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with errors in word formation and collocation causing some difficulty for the reader. There is little control over less common vocabulary, placing this performance firmly in the Band 5.0 category where vocabulary limitations occasionally impede smooth reading.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentences, but the grammatical accuracy is weak. There are frequent errors in article usage, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'visitors has no response', 'stood at proportion 35 as compare to'). Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistent. While meaning is generally retrievable despite the frequent errors, the high density of structural inaccuracies and awkward phrasing prevents the response from reaching Band 6.0, fitting the Band 5.0 profile where frequent errors cause difficulty.
