Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word length requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at only 95 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, and the information is severely under-developed. While the student attempts to report some data from the table (such as the total number of visitors being 74,000) and mentions survey results, key trends and comparisons between the two years are missing due to the incomplete nature of the response. The overview is also truncated, cutting off mid-sentence ('Then after'). To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure the full task is completed with a comprehensive summary of all main features and comparisons, meeting the word count requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5

The writing demonstrates an attempt at logical organization by beginning with an introductory overview statement. However, the text breaks off prematurely, leaving the paragraphing and progression incomplete. Cohesive devices are minimal, and referencing is sometimes awkward, as seen in 'The table compares the result' followed by introducing survey results which are actually shown in charts rather than a table. Because the response is unfinished, it is impossible to evaluate overall cohesion fully, but the lack of progression and abrupt ending severely limit coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'number of visitors', 'total number of visitors', and 'result of surveys' are reused without much variation. There are also lexical inaccuracies, such as referring to the charts as a 'table' when describing the survey results, and awkward phrasing like 'people were balanced'. Spelling is generally acceptable for the words attempted, but the range is far too limited to discuss complex data effectively. To improve, the student needs to incorporate a wider variety of precise, topic-specific vocabulary and synonyms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The grammatical structures attempted are largely simple sentences or flawed complex sentences. There are noticeable grammatical errors, such as the incomplete passive form 'after refurbished' instead of 'after it was refurbished', and subject-verb agreement errors like 'the total number of visitors who visit to Ashdown Museum were 74000'. Furthermore, the response is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence at the end. These persistent errors and the lack of a variety of complex structures restrict the score for this criterion.
