Student answer (Band 6.0)
The table shows the number of visitors to Ashdown museum during the year before and the year after refurbishment. The two pie charts illustrate the results of surveys in which visitors were asked about the museum's facilities and their level of satisfaction.
To begin with, before refurbisment only 74,000 people vistied the museum because 40% of visitors were dissatisfied with its facilities. Moreover, 30% of the visitores were very dissatisfied with museum. However, only 10% people satisfied with the museum's facilities, while 15% were very satisfied. In addition, 5%of the visitors did not want to give any response.
After the refurbisment, the number of visitores were increased to 92,000. Furthermore, 40% of the individuals were satisfied and 35% were very satisfied with the museum. In contrast, only 15% of the respondents were dissatisfied, while 5% of the visitors very dissatisfied. Additionally, 5% of the visitores did not give any response.
Overall, after the refurbisment the museum attracted more visitores and the satisfaction levels increased and dissatisfaction levels declined.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both the table and the pie charts. The overall visitor numbers are stated correctly (74,000 before and 92,000 after refurbishment), and the satisfaction survey data is adequately summarised and compared. However, there is a notable data misinterpretation in the second paragraph: the student reverses the percentages for 'dissatisfied' (40%) and 'very dissatisfied' (10%) from the source chart, attributing 40% to very dissatisfied and 30% to satisfied. Despite this factual error, the overall trends are captured correctly, and the response features a clear overview in the final paragraph. This places the response comfortably at Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is arranged logically into four paragraphs, following a standard academic report structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs detailing the before and after periods, and a concluding overview. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'However', and 'In contrast' are used to guide the reader through the data, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive ('Furthermore', 'Additionally'). Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two time periods. Referencing is generally clear, though minor improvements in linking phrases could enhance fluidity. Overall, the organisation is coherent and meets the requirements for a Band 6.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to report figures, percentages, and satisfaction levels effectively ('refurbishment', 'satisfaction levels', 'respondents', 'attracted'). However, there are multiple spelling errors throughout the text, including repeated misspellings of 'refurbishment' as 'refurbisment' and 'visitors' as 'visitores' and 'vistied'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are generally successful in context, but the lexical range remains somewhat limited and repetitive. Because the spelling errors do not impede communication, the vocabulary is sufficient for a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and comparative structures. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'before refurbisment only 74,000 people vistied the museum because 40% of visitors were dissatisfied' and 'only 10% people satisfied', where auxiliary verbs or prepositions are missing. Additionally, sentences like 'the number of visitores were increased' exhibit subject-verb agreement issues ('number of visitors was increased'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede overall communication. The mix of structures and control of basic grammar aligns with a Band 6.0.
