Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student covers both the table regarding visitor numbers and the charts concerning visitor satisfaction. The overview outlines the main contrast between the periods effectively, noting that satisfaction increased while dissatisfaction dropped. Key data points are cited, such as the total figures of 74,000 and 92,000, and percentages like 40% for satisfaction and dissatisfaction in respective periods. However, there are some inaccuracies and awkward phrasings in reporting the detailed breakdowns, such as stating 'majority of the people does not like which is accounted for 40, 30%'. Despite these minor numerical reporting issues, the main features are successfully identified and compared, positioning this response securely at Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is arranged into four paragraphs, successfully separating the introduction, overall summary, and two body paragraphs detailing the before and after surveys. Cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'Overall', 'There are total', and 'whereas', but they are sometimes applied mechanically or awkwardly, as seen in 'at last 15% percent'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the information logically, leading the reader from visitor numbers to satisfaction metrics. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly with pronoun use and sentence boundaries. This corresponds to the Band 6 descriptor where the overall arrangement is coherent, but referencing and cohesion are occasionally faulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The lexical range is adequate for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'illustrates', 'refurbishment', 'satisfaction', and 'dissatisfied'. However, there are several spelling errors ('reburishment', 'aksing', 'visitiors', 'suprisingly', 'nuber') and instances of imprecise word choice and word formation, such as 'accounts of visitors' instead of 'number of visitors' and 'vast nuber people tell that they are'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success. Because the errors in spelling and word choice do not severely impede communication, the response meets the requirements for Band 5.5, balancing adequate task coverage with noticeable lexical inaccuracies.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures like 'while the majority of of the people dissatisfied'. However, control over grammar is inconsistent. There are frequent missing verbs, preposition errors, and punctuation slips, such as the comma splice in the opening sentence ('The diagram illustrates, the accounts of visitors...'). Other errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('the people who is not satisfied') and missing articles. While complex structures are attempted, they are frequently faulty. This aligns closely with the Band 5 descriptor, where a limited range of structures and frequent grammatical errors can cause some difficulty for the reader.
