Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to cover both the table and the pie charts, mentioning the visitor numbers (74,000 before and 92,000 after) and some satisfaction percentages. However, there are notable inaccuracies in data reporting; for instance, the student states that '7000 number of visitors' were present before refurbishment, misreading the actual figure of 74,000. Furthermore, the overview is weak, confused, and ungrammatical. While the main features are touched upon, the lack of precision in data extraction and the flawed overview prevent the response from achieving a higher band score. It fits the Band 5 descriptor well, as it addresses the task partially with limited and sometimes inaccurate data reporting.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is organized into paragraphs, attempting an introduction, an overview, and detailed body paragraphs. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by poor sentence structure and confusing phrasing, such as 'the highest number of visitors to Ashdown museum were visit the year after refurbished'. Cohesive devices are minimal and often misused (e.g., 'the while, the highest number'). Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within sentences is weak and repetitive, resulting in a somewhat disjointed reading experience. This aligns with Band 5, where there is some organization and paragraphing, but overall progression is lacking and referencing is frequently unclear.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, heavily relying on words directly copied from the prompt such as 'visitors', 'museum', 'refurbished', and 'satisfaction'. There are frequent lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'visit the year after refurbished' instead of 'visited in the year after refurbishment'. The student struggles with basic word forms and collocations. There is virtually no use of less common vocabulary or paraphrasing. This performance reflects Band 4, as the vocabulary is basic and repetitive, and errors in word choice and form occasionally strain the reader's understanding.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of poorly constructed simple and attempted complex sentences. There are persistent and severe grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense confusion ('were visit'), missing auxiliary verbs, incorrect prepositions, and faulty relative clauses (e.g., 'survey asking to visitors how satisfied they were'). Complex sentence forms are almost always inaccurate. Punctuation is also problematic, with run-on sentences joined incorrectly by commas. Because errors are frequent, systematic, and frequently impede meaning, this falls squarely into Band 4.
