Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The student covers all parts of the task well, providing a clear summary of the table and pie charts. The main features are identified accurately, noting the rise in visitor numbers from 74,000 to 92,000, as well as the positive shift in visitor satisfaction levels. An overview is present and effectively summarises the main trends, stating that visitor numbers increased while dissatisfaction decreased and overall satisfaction improved. The figures cited from the text match the provided visual data accurately, and comparisons between the two periods are appropriately made. The response satisfies all requirements for this criterion at a high level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response has a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are presented in a coherent sequence, moving naturally from an introductory overview to specific data points regarding visitor numbers, and subsequently detailing the survey satisfaction percentages for both periods. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different elements of the visual data. Cohesive devices such as 'while', 'furthermore', 'additionally', and 'regarding' are used logically, though a slightly wider variety of cohesive links could enhance the flow further. Overall, the structural progression supports easy reading and clear navigation of the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary with some flexibility and precision, suitable for an Academic Task 1 response. Less common items and paraphrasing are used effectively, such as 'infrastructural changes', 'surged', 'experienced an impressive rally', and 'proportion of non-respondent visitors'. There are occasional slight awkwardnesses in phrasing, but word choice and collocations are generally accurate and do not impede communication. Spelling and word formation are correct throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response features a good mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over grammatical structures. Complex sentences, such as 'The table illustrates the total number of visitors... while the pie charts indicate...', are handled accurately. There is good use of prepositional phrases and relative clauses, and the majority of sentences are error-free. Punctuation is used correctly to separate clauses and list items. Occasional minor slips do not interfere with communication, reflecting a solid command of grammar and sentence construction.
