Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response effectively covers all parts of the prompt by summarising both the table data regarding visitor numbers and the charts showing visitor satisfaction levels. The overview clearly highlights the main trends: an increase in overall visitors and a positive shift in satisfaction ratings after the refurbishment. Key data points are accurately cited, such as the rise from 74,000 to 92,000 visitors, and the breakdown of satisfaction ratings (e.g., very satisfied increasing from 15% to 35%). The comparison is well-made, and the selection of features is appropriate for an Academic Task 1 response, fulfilling all requirements of the task achievement descriptor for Band 7.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The text is logically organised into four distinct paragraphs: an introduction, an overview, details of the period before refurbishment, and details of the period after refurbishment. Progression is generally clear throughout the response. Cohesive devices and referencing are used adequately, such as 'Before refurbishment', 'According to the results', and 'Furthermore'. However, paragraphing and sentence transitions can occasionally feel a bit disjointed due to punctuation errors (e.g., missing spaces after periods and commas). Overall, the logical structure and clear progression earn a solid Band 6.5.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, with appropriate topic-specific terms such as 'refurbishment', 'renovation', 'dissatisfied', and 'proportion'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary ('increased sharply', 'large proportion'). However, there are minor lexical and collocational inaccuracies, such as 'result about their satisfaction' instead of 'results regarding satisfaction', and 'the another 5%' instead of 'another 5%'. Despite these occasional errors, the range is sufficient to convey the information clearly, fitting the Band 6.5 descriptor well.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including relative clauses and introductory dependent clauses (e.g., 'While 15 % of them were very pleased...'). There are frequent error-free sentences, but punctuation and spacing errors are noticeable throughout the text (e.g., missing spaces after commas and periods, such as 'changes ,a greater percentage'). Additionally, there are minor grammatical slips like 'after there were a few changes to museum'. Grammar control is generally good, supporting a Band 6.5 score.
