Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student successfully reports the main features of the visual data, including overall visitor numbers (74,000 before and 92,000 after, though slightly misread as 72,000 in the body) and the survey results for satisfaction levels. An overview is provided in the first paragraph, noting the general increase in visitor numbers and satisfaction. However, there are some minor data inaccuracies, such as misreporting the 'satisfied' and 'very satisfied' categories for the first period (stating 15% were highly satisfied and 10% satisfied, whereas the chart shows 15% very satisfied and 30% satisfied). Despite these minor misreadings, the response covers all parts of the task well and highlights key comparisons between the two periods.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response is arranged into four paragraphs, providing a coherent overall structure with an introduction, overview, and two body paragraphs detailing the before and after periods. However, paragraphing is somewhat irregular, with the introduction and overview merged awkwardly. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'whereas', 'however', and 'in addition to', but some referencing is imprecise or awkward, for instance, 'in addition to then only 10% of them were satisfied'. Logical progression is maintained throughout, but the mechanical nature of some transitions prevents the response from achieving a higher band.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'refurbishment', 'dissatisfaction', and 'extremly pleased'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'wether' instead of 'whether', 'diffrent', 'extremly', and 'dissappinted'. Furthermore, some collocations are unnatural, such as 'decided to be neutral'. While these lexical errors occur frequently, they do not impede communication because the overall meaning remains clear to the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures like 'the number of people who visited the museum increased more to reach 92.000 visitor'. However, grammatical control is weak, with frequent punctuation and capitalization errors, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters ('the table presents...', 'the ashdown museum...'). There are also agreement and pluralization errors, such as '72.000 visitor' and 'the ashdown museum were visited'. These errors reflect a limited control over complex structures and punctuation, though communication is rarely impeded entirely.
