Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The given graph of two pie charts and table as well illustrates the proportion of the total number of visitors to Ashdown museum during the year before and the year after it was refurbished and their rated surveys according to their experience.
overall, the number of visitors who visited Ashdown museum
during the year before refurbishment was 74,000 and accounted how satisfied they were with their visit. the number of individuals who are very satisfied is 15, satisfied is 30, dissatisfied is 40, very dissatisfied is 10 and with no response is 5.
in contrast, the number of visitors survey changed over the years. the number of human beings who visited and results into very satisfied category was increased by 20 as compare to before refurbishment and the number of very dissatisfied survey is also rose by 10 from before refurbishment. but the no response category is the only one which does not change over the years.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The student makes a clear attempt to summarise the data, identifying both the overall visitor numbers (74,000 before and 92,000 after) and the survey results for satisfaction levels. However, the response falls short in terms of thorough comparison and selection of key features. For instance, the writer lists every single category for the before-refurbishment survey rather than synthesising the main trends. Furthermore, the description of changes is imprecise, stating that very satisfied increased by 20 (it actually increased by 20 percentage points, from 15% to 35%). The overview sentence is also somewhat weak and grammatically confused. Nevertheless, the main data points are present, placing this at a Band 5.5 level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text demonstrates some overall organisation, attempting an introductory sentence, an overview, a body paragraph for the first period, and a contrasting paragraph for the second period. However, paragraphing and logical progression are hindered by poor formatting and punctuation. The overview is merged awkwardly with the first body paragraph, and sentences often begin with lowercase letters. Cohesive devices are minimal and basic, such as 'in contrast', and referencing is sometimes unclear, which disrupts the flow and makes the progression mechanical. Overall, the coherence aligns with Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary suitable for describing statistical data, such as 'proportion', 'visitors', and 'category'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as 'the number of human beings who visited', which is unnatural, and confusing percentages with absolute numbers ('increased by 20'). Word choice is basic and repetitive, and spelling errors like 'overall' being lowercase occur. These limitations restrict the score to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response contains a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple subject-verb-object constructions. Attempts at more complex sentences often result in faulty syntax and run-on structures, as seen in the opening sentence: 'The given graph of two pie charts and table as well illustrates...'. Punctuation is poorly handled, with a complete lack of capitalisation at the beginning of sentences ('overall', 'in contrast'). Frequent errors in agreement and tense consistency cause some difficulty for the reader, placing this securely at Band 5.0.
