Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both the table and the charts. The student successfully notes the increase in visitor numbers from 74,000 to 92,000 and accurately captures the survey results regarding visitor satisfaction before and after refurbishment. An overview is present, stating that both visitor numbers and satisfaction levels increased following the refurbishment. However, there are some minor data inaccuracies and awkward expressions, such as combining satisfaction categories or minor percentages, but the core trends are clearly identified and supported with reference to the visual data. This places the response comfortably in Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay has a basic overall structure, making an attempt at introducing the graphics, providing an overview, and breaking down the details. However, paragraphing is poorly executed, with abrupt transitions and a lack of clear separation between ideas. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes incorrectly, such as 'On the other hand' and 'Now, turning into the details'. Referencing and logical progression are occasionally faulty, leading to a choppy reading experience. While the overall arrangement is coherent enough to follow, these cohesive and structural limitations cap the score at Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'refurbishment', 'dissatisfied', and 'massive increase'. However, there are numerous word choice and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'rush of visitors', 'statisfication' (repeatedly misspelled), 'Meuseum', and 'satisfy' instead of 'satisfied'. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling mistakes are noticeable, though they do not completely impede communication. This performance aligns with the descriptors for Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the number of visitors are 74,000'), tense inconsistencies ('there will be massive increase'), and missing articles ('In table', 'after refurbishment of Meuseum'). Punctuation is also erratic, with missing capitalisation at the beginning of sentences following periods. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a solid Band 5.0 level of grammatical control.
