Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The student attempts to address the task by reporting the visitor numbers and mentioning some survey results, but the response is severely limited in development and cuts off abruptly at the end ('were were say'). The overview provided in the second paragraph is partially accurate regarding the visitor figures increasing from 74,000 to 92,000, but the reporting of the survey data is confused, inaccurate, and incorrectly framed as absolute numbers of people rather than percentages (e.g., stating '40 people out of 100 was satisfied' instead of percentages from the charts). Furthermore, important trends, such as the significant drop in dissatisfaction and the rise in the 'very satisfied' category, are poorly handled. Because of the incomplete conclusion and inaccurate reading of the survey data, the task is only partially addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text is divided into brief paragraphs, but overall progression is hindered by repetitive phrasing and a lack of coherent organisation. While some basic cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall' and 'Similarly', referencing is frequently unclear or misused. For instance, the transition between discussing visitor numbers and survey results feels abrupt and disconnected. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final sentence trails off unfinished, completely disrupting the structural flow of the essay. Cohesion is faulty and mechanical throughout, placing this response firmly in the lower-middle bands.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, heavily relying on words lifted directly from the prompt, such as 'visitors', 'museum', 'refurbished', and 'surveys'. There are spelling errors ('illustartes', 'visitoirs', 'refurbisment', 'diassatisfied') and word choice inaccuracies that reflect a limited range. The misuse of 'people' instead of percentages when referring to the chart data indicates a restricted control over task-specific vocabulary. While meaning is communicated in parts, the lexical range is inadequate for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as using 'While' and 'Similarly'. However, grammatical accuracy is low, with frequent errors including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'there was around 5 people who give no response' instead of 'were') and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation and sentence construction degrade significantly towards the end of the text, culminating in an unfinished sentence fragment ('were were say'). These persistent errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and restrict the score.
