Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response falls well short of the minimum length requirement of 150 words, containing only 112 words. Consequently, the task is addressed only minimally. While the student attempts to report some details from the visual data, such as visitor numbers and survey satisfaction levels, the information is presented in a fragmented, highly confusing manner. For instance, the reference to visitor numbers being 'less half of total visitors' fails to clearly communicate the actual figures provided in the table. Furthermore, key comparisons are poorly articulated, and the lack of a coherent overview means the response only touches upon the prompt tangentially rather than fully summarising the main trends.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently within this response. There is a complete absence of paragraphing, with the entire text written as a single, rambling block. Cohesive devices are largely absent or misused, relying on repetitive conjunctions like 'and' and vague transition words such as 'furthermore' and 'afterwards' to string clauses together. This creates a dense, run-on style where referencing is extremely unclear—for example, phrases like 'after decoration their increase furthermore' leave the reader guessing what 'their' refers to. There is no logical progression or clear overall structure guiding the reader through the data.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, heavily straining the reader's comprehension. The student relies on elementary words and struggles significantly with word choice and collocation, resulting in awkward and unnatural phrases such as 'visitors number of unsatisfied' instead of 'the number of dissatisfied visitors', and 'dont response' instead of 'no response'. There are also numerous instances of incorrect word forms, such as 'refurbished their numbers decline' and 'after decoration their increase'. While some topic-related vocabulary is attempted, such as 'visitors' and 'refurbishment', the frequent lexical errors severely impede the clarity of the message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting almost entirely of poorly constructed, overly long simple sentences linked inappropriately by coordinating conjunctions. There are frequent, heavy errors in basic sentence structure, verb forms, and word order, such as 'Before refurbishment year ashdown museum the visitors number of unsatisfied was less half...' and 'very satisfied visitors number of people visitors was half quarter almost'. Punctuation is virtually non-existent, and essential grammatical components such as prepositions, articles, and auxiliary verbs are frequently omitted or misused, causing frequent confusion for the reader regarding the intended meaning.
