Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only partially and falls well short of the 150-word minimum, containing only 122 words. While the student attempts to summarise the data by mentioning the visitor numbers increasing from 74,000 to 92,000 and noting changes in satisfaction levels (such as '15% people is very satisfied before refurbished... become 35%'), the selection of information is limited and under-developed. The overview provided at the end is overly simplistic ('more people are happy those are visit to Ashdown Museum after refurbished') and lacks a clear summary of the most prominent trends. To reach a higher level, the writer must meet the minimum word count and provide a more comprehensive overview of both the visitor numbers and the survey data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation in the response, moving from a brief introduction to body details and a concluding overview, but there is no clear overall progression. Paragraphing is rudimentary and sentences are clumped together without logical links. Cohesive devices are largely absent or inaccurate, relying heavily on repetitive structures such as 'before refurbished' and 'after refurbished of museum' to transition between ideas rather than using appropriate referencing or conjunctions. To improve, the writer needs to structure the response into distinct paragraphs with a logical flow and use a wider range of cohesive devices smoothly, such as 'consequently', 'in contrast', or 'furthermore'.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, barely adequate for the task. Words and phrases like 'refurbished' and 'visitor' are repeated multiple times rather than substituted with synonyms. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'the visitor of Ashdown Museum', '5% are no responses', and 'visitor give no responses', which stem from poor word choice and form. Spelling and word formation errors also occur, such as 'illustrate' instead of 'illustrates'. To achieve a higher score, the writer must incorporate a wider range of vocabulary, use less common lexical items accurately, and pay closer attention to word forms and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on basic, repetitive sentence patterns. Attempts at more complex structures or passive voice are consistently faulty, as seen in 'before refurbished and after refurbished of museum', '15% people is very satisfied', and 'which is become 35%'. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense usage, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'chart show', '10% visitor are'). These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To progress, the student needs to use a greater variety of complex sentence forms with better control over grammar, articles, and prepositions.
