Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response attempts to address the task by summarizing the provided visual data, including visitor numbers and satisfaction survey results. However, the data presentation contains significant inaccuracies and omissions. For instance, the opening sentence misidentifies the charts as pie charts, and the summary of visitor numbers (the 74,000 and 92,000 figures from the table) is entirely omitted from the body text. Furthermore, the selection of main features is disjointed, and the description of the satisfaction percentages is confused, referring to '40 percentage' and '30rates' rather than clear proportional breakdowns. The overview is weak and fails to capture the principal trends clearly. To move to a higher level, the writer must ensure all parts of the prompt—including the table data—are included, avoid misinterpreting chart types, and provide a clear, accurate overview of the main trends and comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The text is organized into paragraphs with an introductory sentence and conclusion-like transitions, showing some basic structure. However, the overall progression lacks clarity, and the relationships between ideas are sometimes strained. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively, such as the mechanical sequencing phrases like 'On the one hand,' and 'On the other hand,' which do not logically fit the contrast of these specific data points. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow which survey period or category is being discussed. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal flow within paragraphs needs better logical sequencing and more accurate use of transition signals to achieve a higher band.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, reflecting a restricted range adequate only for basic communication. There are frequent lexical inaccuracies, awkward word choices, and non-standard collocations throughout the text, such as 'amounted for' instead of 'accounted for', 're-construction' and 're-structured' where noun forms like 'refurbishment' or 'renovation' are needed, and '10 rate' or '30rates' instead of percentages. Spelling is generally acceptable, but word choice errors and incorrect word forms occasionally impede clarity and cause confusion for the reader. To improve, the writer should expand their vocabulary related to data trends and ensure correct word forms and collocations are used consistently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding prepositions, subject-verb agreement, and missing articles or incorrect modifiers. Examples include 'the population of people were satisfied recorded to be the highest', 'the rate of people that were not satisfied recorded at', and awkward comparative structures. Punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas and periods, are also noticeable. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and indicate a need for stronger control over basic and complex grammatical forms, verb tenses, and sentence construction.
