Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by selecting and reporting the main features from both the table and the pie charts. You provide the overall figures for visitor numbers, noting the rise from 74,000 to 92,000, and highlight key survey results, such as the increase in satisfied visitors and the decrease in dissatisfied ones. However, some parts are more fully developed than others; for instance, the details regarding the percentage shifts in satisfaction are somewhat repetitive and could have been synthesised more effectively to present a clearer, more polished overview. Nevertheless, a relevant and accurate selection of data is presented throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the answer into an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs detailing the specific data sets. Progression is generally logical, moving from the table data to the chart survey results. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. For example, transitional phrases like 'In the table, before the refurbishment' feel a bit abrupt, and the referencing within sentences lacks smoothness. Paragraphing is present and helps divide the information into distinct blocks, but the internal connections between sentences could be refined to ensure a smoother flow of ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
An adequate range of vocabulary is used to accomplish the task, allowing you to discuss figures and survey results. You attempt less common vocabulary items and phrases, such as 'refurbishment', 'slightly increased', and 'dissatisfied', but there are noticeable word-choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'giving refurbishment to the museum' instead of 'refurbishing the museum', and 'the amount of satisfied visitors' rather than 'the proportion or number of satisfied visitors'. There are also occasional spelling slips, such as 'yaer' instead of 'year', and 'visistors', though these do not seriously impede overall communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as the introductory relative clause ('surveys which were asked to visitors') and subordinate clauses. However, there are several errors in grammar and punctuation. Issues include awkward passive constructions ('surveys which were asked to visitors'), article omission or misuse ('to the ashdown museum'), preposition errors ('increased upto to'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('the number of visitors are slightly increased'). While these errors are noticeable, the meaning generally remains clear and they rarely impede overall communication.
