Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting both the visitor numbers from the table and the satisfaction survey results from the charts. It provides an appropriate overview noting the overall increase in visitors and improved satisfaction levels after refurbishment. However, certain parts are more fully developed than others. While the general trends are captured, the detailed figures from the charts are listed in a somewhat mechanical way rather than being fully synthesised or compared effectively. To move to a higher level, the response would need to integrate the data more fluidly, highlighting key contrasts and proportions with greater depth and analytical clarity throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the information into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on the table and charts respectively. Logical progression is established using basic cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'To begin with', and 'Furthermore'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition between sentences can feel abrupt, and pronouns or cohesive links are not always employed with complete precision. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to ensure that sentences and paragraphs flow more smoothly into one another, using a wider and more natural variety of organizational links without relying on repetitive transitional phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The writer uses an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'refurbished', 'visitors', 'survey', and percentages like 'dissatisfied' and 'satisfied'. There are, nevertheless, noticeable lexical and spelling errors that stem from word choice and word formation, such as 'demostrates' instead of 'demonstrates', 'visitor satisfaction when they were visit' instead of 'when they visited', and 'reponse' instead of 'response'. These inaccuracies reflect a limited range and occasional slips. To progress, the student should expand their vocabulary to include more precise reporting verbs and synonyms, while paying closer attention to accurate spelling and word forms to prevent minor distractions for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting comparative structures and subordinate clauses such as 'While results of surveys shows visitor are satisfied'. There are, however, frequent grammatical errors related to verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and articles, including 'the figure of visitors', 'results of surveys shows', and 'visitors are visit'. These errors occur because attempts at complex grammar are often faulty, leading to noticeable inaccuracies. To reach the next level, the writer must exercise better control over basic grammatical structures, ensuring accurate tense usage, correct prepositional patterns, and proper verb agreements in every sentence.
