Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main visitor figures (74,000 before and 92,000 after) and summarising the survey results for satisfaction levels. An overview is attempted, stating that visitor numbers and satisfaction increased after the refurbishment. However, some parts of the response are under-developed or less clear, such as the slightly confused phrasing when attempting to integrate the visitor numbers with the percentages in the third paragraph. To reach a higher band, the overview needs to be sharper and the data reporting should be more precisely structured without conflating separate metrics awkwardly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
There is a coherent overall arrangement to the response, dividing the information into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs covering the two survey periods. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, with awkward transitional phrases like 'To fleeting glance with' and 'Moving ahead'. Paragraphing is used, but referencing between sentences is not always clear, which occasionally disrupts the logical flow. To improve, a greater variety of more natural cohesive devices should be employed to link ideas smoothly rather than relying on awkward, non-standard transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying basic concepts related to numbers, surveys, and satisfaction. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that stem from attempting less common vocabulary, such as 'tabular chart', 'torisits', 'satisafaction', 'crystle', and 'friction' instead of fraction. These lexical slips and awkward word choices highlight the limitations at this level. To achieve a higher band, spelling accuracy needs to be improved and vocabulary must be used with greater precision and correct collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like 'whereas only 5% visitors were not satisfied and gave no response as compare to dissatisfied tourists who were 15%'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles, prepositions, and awkward clause structures, such as 'highest number of visited to museum'. While these errors are present, communication is generally maintained. To move to a higher band, the control over complex sentence structures needs to be stronger, resulting in fewer grammatical errors across the text.
