Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response meets the task only minimally, and importantly, it falls short of the 150-word minimum requirement at 146 words. While the student attempts to summarise the data by mentioning the overall visitor numbers (74,000 before and 92,000 or 93,000 after) and touches upon the satisfaction survey results, the coverage is limited and imprecise. Figures are occasionally misreported, such as stating '93000' instead of 92,000, and percentages are confused with absolute figures or numbers of respondents in a confused manner. Key trends are not fully or accurately developed, and the response lacks a clear, well-supported overview of the main features shown in the mixed charts and table.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
Information and ideas are not arranged in a fully coherent manner. The text uses some basic cohesive devices and transition markers such as 'firstly', 'morever', and 'in conclusion', but the overall progression of ideas lacks clarity. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with the response essentially lumped into a single block of text with arbitrary line breaks rather than distinct topical paragraphs for the visitor numbers and the survey results. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow which data points correspond to which period or category, resulting in a mechanical and disjointed flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, reflecting a limited range that struggles to convey the statistical information accurately. There are numerous spelling errors and incorrect word forms throughout the text, such as 'rhe', 'satisgied', 'durning', 'god', and 'museu'. Word choice is frequently inaccurate, for instance using 'chart circle' to describe bar charts or pie charts, and misapplying terms like 'huge amount'. These lexical shortcomings and persistent errors cause strain for the reader and impede clear communication of the visual data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, relying heavily on simple sentence structures with frequent faults when attempting more complex clauses. There are persistent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and basic sentence construction, such as 'the visitor number who are visits', 'visitors whos no response', and 'their is a big difference'. Punctuation and article usage are also weak throughout the text. These frequent errors occur across many sentence types and can cause significant difficulty and confusion for the reader in understanding the intended meaning.
