Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially. While the writer includes the visitor numbers and survey results from both the table and the charts, some of the data points are incorrectly reported or misread. For instance, the text claims that 40% of people were dissatisfied and 30% very dissatisfied before refurbishment, whereas the chart actually shows 40% dissatisfied and 10% very dissatisfied, while the 30% figure refers to the 'satisfied' category. Furthermore, the explanation includes unsupported assumptions, such as attributing the dissatisfaction to the 'very poor condition of museum.' The overview and comparisons lack clarity, leaving the ideas limited and under-developed, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the information logically between the period before refurbishment and the period after. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. The writer relies heavily on repetitive introductory phrases and transitional markers such as 'First of all,' 'Secondly,' 'In addition to this,' and 'Lastly.' Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the abrupt transitions between sentences when discussing the survey charts. While the organization provides a basic structure, the mechanical use of cohesive devices and occasional lapses in logical progression keep the response at this level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary related to the prompt, such as 'refurbished,' 'renovation,' and 'satisfaction,' but these attempts are often accompanied by noticeable errors in word form, choice, and spelling, such as 'diisatified' instead of 'dissatisfied' and incorrect phrasing like 'before the refurbished.' There is also frequent repetition of standard terms like 'people,' 'visitors,' and 'museum.' These lexical inaccuracies and limitations cause occasional strain for the reader and prevent a more precise description of the visual data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple statements with occasional attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly with articles, verb forms, and prepositional patterns. Examples include 'before the refurbished' instead of 'before the refurbishment,' 'the table tells that,' and missing plural markers or awkward phrasing such as 'visitor give no response.' While the meaning can generally be deciphered, these frequent grammatical errors cause difficulty and distraction for the reader throughout the text.
