Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both the table and the charts, while also making relevant comparisons between the two periods. For example, the student accurately notes the increase in total visitor numbers from 74,000 to 92,000, and highlights key shifts in survey responses, such as the drop in dissatisfaction and the rise in positive feedback. An overview is provided right at the beginning and supported further in the conclusion, capturing the general trend that satisfaction levels improved significantly after the refurbishment. While the selection of data is largely clear and well-supported, some of the specific survey percentages are slightly generalised or overlapping, which stops the response from reaching a higher band. Nevertheless, the main features are adequately communicated throughout the text.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure by introducing the data, breaking down specific survey results and visitor numbers in the body, and summarising the main findings in a concluding overview. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body details, and summary. However, cohesion is at times somewhat mechanical or faulty, with awkward transitions and referencing that is occasionally unclear, such as the phrase 'in contrast, similar percentage visitors submitted surveys as satisfied post refurbishment.' While logical progression is generally maintained, some sentences feel loosely linked rather than smoothly integrated, which keeps the organisational control at this level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items related to data reporting and surveys, such as 'refurbishment', 'proportion', and 'feedback'. However, there are noticeable word choice, collocation, and word form errors throughout the text, including 'how much people's visited', 're-development', 'similar percentage visitors', and 'new constructed museum'. Furthermore, awkward phrasings like 'Very dissatisfaction level' and 'dropdown' demonstrate limited precision with lexical forms and collocations. These errors do not entirely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score because control over less common vocabulary remains inconsistent and requires more precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting comparative structures and relative clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause some difficulty for the reader. Examples of grammatical lapses include subject-verb agreement issues ('92000 visitor accounted', 'visitor were given feedback'), missing or incorrect prepositions and articles ('submitted surveys as satisfied', 'did not even gave the feedback'), and awkward passive voice constructions ('were accounted as three quarter'). These frequent errors in basic and complex structures mean that error-free sentences are not consistently maintained, keeping the grammatical score firmly in this range.
