Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting both visitor numbers and survey results for the two periods, meeting the requirements for this level. Key features are selected and reported, such as the rise in visitor numbers from 74,000 to 92,000 and the shift in satisfaction levels. However, some ideas are under-developed or less clearly explained, such as the imprecise grouping of percentages and awkward phrasing regarding survey responses. An overview is attempted, but it is somewhat vague and contains awkward expressions. To reach a higher level, the writer should provide a more fully developed overview and ensure all comparisons are stated with greater clarity and precision.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview into detailed body paragraphs for each period. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as 'Overall', 'On the closer observation', and 'On the other hand'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally faulty or mechanical, as seen in repetitive sentence openings and awkward transitions like 'In addition during the same two periods refurbishment result'. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but internal cohesion within paragraphs could be smoother to establish a clearer progression of ideas throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the main trends and data points. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'refurbished', 'satisfaction', and 'positive impact', but these attempts are accompanied by notable inaccuracies in word choice, spelling, and word forms. For example, there are spelling errors like 'Meseum', 'surverys', and 'safisfied', as well as collocation issues such as 'visitors are great dissatisfied' and 'surveys of the visitors satisfaction report has a postive impact'. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score due to frequent slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and comparative structures. However, there are numerous errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles, incorrect verb forms ('visitors visited'), and agreement issues ('the other three categories are dissatisfied, very dissatisfied and no response are the lowest'). While some complex structures are attempted, they are frequently faulty, leading to awkward or ungrammatical sentences like 'the visitors are great dissatisfied with Meseum, while year after refurbishment it has seen that the visitors are safisfied'. These errors require the reader to occasionally reread parts of the text to grasp the intended meaning.
