Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially, presenting some key features of the museum data but containing noticeable inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, the student states that 'dissatisfied public was 40%' for the year before refurbishment, which is correct for dissatisfied, but later confuses categories by claiming that visitors who were 'very dissatisfied before refurbishment were just 30% but in increased by 10% after reorganization.' Furthermore, some ideas are repetitive and under-developed, lacking a fully clear overview of the main trends across both the visitor numbers and the satisfaction surveys. To move towards higher bands, the writer must ensure that all reported data points precisely match the source material and that comparisons are clearly structured and fully extended.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation in the response, but it lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, with an introductory and a concluding overview structure, but the body paragraphs are disjointed and repeat similar points about satisfaction levels without a logical flow. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or inaccurately, such as abrupt transitions ('Taking about year before redevelopment', 'On the other hand') and vague referencing ('these data changes', 'Through the period'). To improve, the student should ensure each paragraph has a distinct focus, employ cohesive ties more naturally to link sentences and ideas, and maintain a logical chronological or thematic progression throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling that occasionally cause confusion for the reader, such as 'survays', 'weree', 'visitiors', 'redevelopment', and 'surprasing'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'reorganization' and 'restructured', but these are accompanied by awkward phrasings or incorrect word forms. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to expand their lexical range with accurate spelling and appropriate collocations, avoiding repetitive terms and ensuring that word forms (nouns, adjectives, verbs) are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing shows a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors when attempting complex forms. There are frequent mistakes in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'The given informations highlight', 'people who visited museum where 15%', 'number of public who were very unhappy fall', and 'in both year'. Punctuation errors are also present, including missing spaces after commas and periods. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader and restrict the score. To progress, the writer should focus on mastering basic grammatical structures, ensuring correct tense consistency when describing past data, and improving sentence control.
