Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting both the visitor numbers from the table and the satisfaction survey results from the charts. An overview is attempted, noting the general increase in visitors and satisfaction levels after the refurbishment. However, some aspects of the task are under-developed or lack clarity. For instance, the reference to 'before responses' is slightly vague, and some of the comparative details regarding the survey categories could have been more precisely synthesised. The figures cited, such as 74,000 and 92,000 for the visitors and the percentages for the satisfaction levels, are generally accurate based on the visual data, though the selection of features tends to list individual data points rather than fully highlighting overarching trends.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. Words and phrases used to connect ideas, such as 'In the beginning' and 'Regarding the results of surveys', feel a bit formulaic and disrupt the natural flow of progression. Referencing is not always clear, particularly with phrases like 'afterwards period' and 'most of the people dissatisfied compared with very satisfied', which make the logical links between ideas occasionally difficult to follow. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion requires smoother transitions to achieve a higher level of organization.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms related to data reporting such as 'figure', 'percentage', 'rose slightly', and 'fell'. There are several attempts to use less common vocabulary, though this is accompanied by noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, form, and collocation, such as 'period of refurbished the time it has taken', 'rapidly increase the figure', and 'afterwards period'. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they reflect a lack of precision. Spelling is generally correct, but awkward phrasing prevents the vocabulary from being used with full flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures often contain noticeable structural errors. There are frequent mistakes involving verb forms, prepositions, and word formation within grammatical patterns, such as 'visiting to Ashdown Museum throughout the period of refurbished', 'an increase of the visitors', and 'rose at around 40%'. Punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent, as seen in missing articles or awkward modifiers. Although these errors rarely impede overall communication, they occur frequently enough to indicate limited control over more complex grammatical structures.
