Student answer (Band 6.0)
The table compares the numbers of visitors to Ashdown Museum during the recent past year and the recent upcoming year after it was refurbished. The pie charts illustrate the data (in percentage) of surveys asking visitors how satisfied they were with their visit, during the before and after refurbishment.
Overall, we can clearly seen that the number of guest to Ashdown Museum increased significantly after the refurbishment. In addition, we focus on the pie chart we noticed that most of the people are dissatisfied before the refurbishment but after refurbishment majority of them became satisfied.
In table, the visitors in the Ashdown Museum before the refurbishment was 74,000 while after refurbishment the number jump significantly to 92,000.
In pie chart, the year before refurbishment the majority proportion (40%) were dissatisfied whereas only 30% were satisfied. Additionaly, the proportion of very satisfied people and very dissatisfied people were 15% and 10% respectively. In contrast 5% people did not responsed.
After the refurbishment, the percentage of satisfied and very satisfied people were increased dramatically to 40% and 35% sequentially. Whereas, the number of dissatisfied people and very dissatisfied people decreased marginally to 15% and 5% respectively. Furthermore, the proportion of no response people remain unchanged.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features from both the table and the charts. A clear overview is presented in the second paragraph, highlighting the overall increase in visitor numbers and the shift in satisfaction levels. Key data points are accurately selected and compared, such as the rise in visitor numbers from 74,000 to 92,000 and the changes in satisfaction percentages. However, there is a minor misinterpretation in the introduction where the student refers to the 'recent upcoming year', whereas the charts clearly depict the year after refurbishment. Ideas are well extended and supported, placing the performance solidly within this band level, though minor inaccuracies in temporal references prevent a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the table data to the survey results. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, overview, table details, and chart details. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, seen in awkward transitional phrases such as 'In table,' and 'In pie chart,' which lack necessary articles and prepositions. Referencing and cohesive devices are generally functional but lack the flexibility and smooth flow required for higher bands. To improve, the student should use more sophisticated and natural linking words to connect ideas and paragraphs seamlessly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as 'refurbishment', 'proportion', 'sequentially', and 'remain unchanged'. However, there are noticeable word-choice, collocation, and word-form errors that reflect a limited level of precision. Examples include 'number of guest' instead of 'guests', 'did not responsed' instead of 'responded', and the misuse of 'sequentially' where 'respectively' would be more appropriate. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they restrict the lexical score to this level. Expanding lexical flexibility and ensuring correct word forms will help achieve a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'we can clearly seen', 'In table', and 'the year before refurbishment the majority proportion... were'. Additionally, issues with awkward clause structures and prepositional use appear throughout the text. While simple sentences are generally clear, attempts at more complex structures often introduce errors that require the reader to occasionally re-read parts of the text. Better oversight of basic grammar rules and tighter sentence construction are needed to advance.
