Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

A tabulation below illustrates the number of of visitors to Ashdown Meuseum before and after it's renovation. The pie charts depict the data outcome of the surveys asking visitors how satisfied they were with their visit, during the year before and after the museum was refurbished.

Overall, the number of visitors to Ashdown Museum increased significantly after the meseum was renovated. On the other hand, results of surveys of visitor satisfaction have a variation in numbers except the "no response" parameter, which remain unchanged before and after the refurbishment.

During the year before renovation, total visitors to Ashdown Museum was 74,000. In the very same year, the result of survey shows highest number for dissatisfaction, which is 40, follwed by satisfaction which is 30 and lowest number for no response, which is just 5. Meanwhile, very satisfied and very dissatisfied got a number 15 and 10 respectively.

The total visitors to Ashdown Museum increased during the year after refurbishment from 74,000 to 92,000. After refurbishment, the parameter, "very satisfied" increases more than the half of it, becomes 35 now and "dissatisfied" decreased to just 15, more than half of it, which it was before. While number for parameter "satisfied" increased by 10, becomes 40 now. "No response" remain unchanged but very dissatisfied reduced to its half, which becomes just 5.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both the table and the charts. A clear overview is provided, highlighting the overall increase in visitors and the general shift in satisfaction levels, alongside specific data points such as the visitor numbers rising from 74,000 to 92,000. Key trends are appropriately highlighted and supported with figures from the text, such as 'dissatisfied' dropping from 40 to 15. The response meets the length requirement, and while twelve words were copied from the prompt, the student selected and reported the main features well. Ideas are extended, though a higher band would require a more sophisticated synthesis of the data rather than listing individual survey categories sequentially.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the introduction to the overview and body paragraphs. Information is generally well-sequenced, with appropriate paragraphing used to separate the table data and survey results. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader, such as 'Overall,' 'Meanwhile,' and 'On the other hand.' However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally mechanical or slightly repetitive in structure, preventing the response from reaching a higher band. For example, transitioning between sentences could flow more smoothly without relying heavily on repetitive formulas like 'becomes 40 now' and 'which becomes just 5.'

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'tabulation,' 'depict,' 'parameter,' and 'refurbishment.' However, there are notable spelling errors ('Meuseum,' 'meseum') and word choice inaccuracies (referring to survey percentages or proportions merely as numbers, and 'result of survey' missing a plural). Less common lexical items are attempted, but spelling and precision errors recur. To achieve a higher band, the vocabulary range needs to be wider and more precise, with fewer basic slips in word form and spelling that detract from the overall fluency.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as introductory dependent clauses followed by main clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors involving subject-verb agreement ('total visitors... was'), articles ('the result of survey'), and awkward phrasing within complex structures ('more than the half of it'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but grammatical inaccuracies persist throughout the text, which is characteristic of this band level. To improve, the student needs to exercise greater control over verb forms, pluralisation, and article usage in more complex sentence patterns.
