Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response makes an attempt to address the task by reporting visitor numbers and survey data, but it only partially covers the prompt due to significant inaccuracies and confusion in the data selection. For instance, the student states that 'highest number of juviniles had gone the Art Gallery', which misinterprets the museum name and introduces irrelevant categories like juveniles not present in the data. While an overview is attempted, it is partially unclear and contains confused generalisations about satisfaction levels. The figures are also misreported in places, such as the confusion surrounding visitor numbers and percentage changes. To reach a higher level, the response must accurately report the key features from the visual data without confusing categories or misinterpreting the actual figures provided.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text exhibits some organisation with paragraph breaks and basic introductory markers such as 'Overall' and 'Moving ahead', but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or awkward, as seen in phrases like 'At fleeting glance' and 'the lion share had been taken by satisfied individuals after the rennovation but the tiny share was noted by very dissatisfied pupils'. Referencing and logical sequencing are occasionally faulty, making the relationships between the data points difficult to follow. To improve cohesion, the writer needs to use logical connectors more naturally, ensure clear paragraphing that groups related information effectively, and avoid mechanical transitions that disrupt the flow of the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'refurbishment', 'reconstruction', and 'rennovation', but these are accompanied by frequent spelling errors ('vistiors', 'juviniles', 'rennovation') and awkward collocations like 'majority of masses' and 'tiny share was noted by very dissatisfied pupils'. Word choices are often imprecise or inappropriate for an academic context, which causes some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the student should expand their range of vocabulary, improve spelling accuracy, and use precise terms related to data reporting rather than relying on informal or strained phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, with frequent grammatical errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. There are notable issues with verb forms and tense usage, such as 'The give table chart illustrates how many vistiors went at Ashdown Museum' and 'the majority of masses were came to the Museum'. Punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent, and attempts at complex sentences frequently result in faulty structures and awkward phrasing. To progress, the writer needs to develop a wider variety of grammatical structures, ensure accurate subject-verb agreement, and eliminate basic errors in prepositions and verb tenses to enhance clarity and readability.
