Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task partially by presenting some key data, such as visitor numbers and certain survey percentages, but it contains notable inaccuracies and misinterpretations. For instance, the writer incorrectly refers to visitors as 'juvinile' and mentions the 'Art Gallery' instead of the museum. While an overview is attempted, some trends are under-developed or unclear, and the selection of data lacks precision. To move to a higher band, the student must ensure all reported facts align strictly with the visual data, avoid bringing in outside or incorrect concepts, and provide a more fully developed overview of the main trends without factual confusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The text shows some overall organisation with paragraphing, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or mechanical, as seen in awkward transitional phrases like 'At fleeting glance' and 'Moving ahead'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making the logical flow difficult to follow at times. To achieve a higher band, the writer should use standard and accurate cohesive phrases, ensure each paragraph has a distinct and logically progressing focus, and connect ideas more smoothly to guide the reader clearly through the data comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. There are issues with word choice, collocation, and word form, such as 'were went', 'rennovation', 'masses', 'juvinile' instead of visitors or children, and 'precentages'. Less common lexical items are attempted but not used accurately. To improve, the student needs to expand their range of vocabulary related to data trends and museum contexts, pay closer attention to spelling, and ensure words are chosen with the correct form and precise meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a very limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors involving verb forms, tenses, and agreement, such as 'visitors were went', 'tourists had been visited', and 'did ot had any response'. These persistent errors can cause difficulty and strain for the reader. To reach a higher band, the student must work on foundational grammatical accuracy, particularly passive voice constructions, past simple tense formation, and avoiding unnecessary auxiliary verbs in negative sentences.
