Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response partially addresses the task. While it attempts to mention both the visitor numbers and the survey results, the coverage is incomplete and features are inadequately developed. For instance, the writer states that the number of visitors increased from 74,000 to 92,000 indirectly, and confuses percentages with absolute numbers in places, such as claiming the satisfied people 'was 15 and 30 percent'. Furthermore, the word count is 146 words, narrowly failing to meet the minimum requirement of 150 words. To achieve a higher band, the response must fully present all main trends from both the table and the charts without misinterpreting the data and must meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation with transitional phrases like 'First of all' and 'Similarly', but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is poorly handled, as the text is clumped into two dense blocks rather than logically separated into an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs detailing different data sets. Cohesive devices are repetitive and sometimes mechanical, such as the repeated phrasing 'before and after refurbishment'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear. To improve, the writer should use clearer paragraph breaks and a wider, more natural variety of cohesive links to guide the reader smoothly through the comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors and awkward word choices such as 'reestablishment', 're-embellishment', and 'vwry' (very). Spelling mistakes and repetitive phrasing restrict the range of vocabulary. While the writer attempts some topic-related vocabulary like 'refurbishment', 'renovation', and 'dissatisfied', the control is weak and imprecise. To move up, the student needs to incorporate a wider range of precise lexical items related to data reporting and ensure correct word forms and spelling without basic slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response employs a very limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the number of visitors have been increased') and awkward prepositional usage ('in both period'). Punctuation and article errors also occur, which can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher band, the writer must demonstrate a greater variety of error-free complex structures and maintain better control over basic grammatical agreements and verb tenses.
