Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting the visitor numbers and the survey results for both periods. Key features are reported, such as the overall rise in visitor numbers from 74,000 to 92,000 and the shift in satisfaction levels. However, some ideas are under-developed or less clear, particularly in the overview section where the sentence structure breaks down into a run-on list of clauses (e.g., 'while no response visitor are same before and after renovation'). Additionally, minor details like the exact percentages for 'very dissatisfied' and 'no response' are mentioned without fully integrating them into a cohesive overview of trends. To reach a higher level, the response would need to highlight the overarching trends more fluently and ensure all figures are contextualised smoothly without awkward phrasing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The writing demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a discernible introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. However, cohesion is frequently mechanical and sometimes faulty. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal linking within sentences is weak, leading to run-on structures and a lack of clear progression in places (for example, the transition from the table data to the chart results in the second paragraph). Reference words and logical connectors are either missing or misused, such as the abrupt start 'TO begin with,' which contains an error in capitalization and does not effectively guide the reader through the data comparison. Improving the logical flow between sentences and employing a wider, more accurate range of cohesive devices would elevate this aspect.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
An adequate vocabulary range is employed to complete the task, successfully conveying basic numbers, categories like 'satisfied' and 'dissatisfied', and terms related to the visual data such as 'proportion' and 'renovation'. The writer attempts less common vocabulary, but this is often accompanied by inaccuracies in word choice, form, or spelling. Examples include 'visitor' instead of the plural 'visitors', 'restoration' used interchangeably with 'refurbishment' and 'renovation', and phrasing like 'most of visitor are satisfied'. These lexical slips do not completely impede communication, but they restrict the response from achieving a higher rating. Using precise forms, accurate plurals consistently, and more natural collocations would strengthen the lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting comparative structures and relative clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Total number of visitors... are demonstrated', 'very satisfied visitor proportion... were'), missing articles (e.g., 'result of survey'), and run-on sentences lacking proper punctuation (e.g., connecting independent clauses with commas or conjunctions improperly). While the meaning can still be deciphered, these persistent errors cause difficulty for the reader and reflect a limited level of structural control. Greater attention to punctuation boundaries, verb-subject agreement, and article usage is necessary to improve accuracy.
