Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The table illustrates the number of visitors to Ashdown Museum before it was refurbished and the year after its alteration. Along with that two graphs gives us data about reviews of visitors before and after the changes.

About 74000 tourists visit Museum year before the alteration and this number increases to 92000 after refurbishment about one half rise up oocurs in the number of visitors.

Last year before the changes occur to Ashdown Museum only 15 percent of total vistors were pretty satisfied and this number increases to 35 percent the year aftrr refurbishment while only 30 percent tourists were satisfied year of refurbishment which inreases to 40 percent after the year of alteration.

Likewise the satisfaction increases the number of disappointed people also declined from 40 percent to just 15 percent while the visitors which were much dissatisfied last year remain the same in number next year of refurbishment as well as the number of visitors who do not give any reply before year of refurbishment remains same in number next year.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the main parts of the task by reporting the overall visitor numbers and summarizing the survey results from both periods. However, the coverage is partial and contains inaccuracies or over-generalizations. For instance, the claim that 'about one half rise up occurs' is mathematically inaccurate given the jump from 74,000 to 92,000. Additionally, some survey trends are described loosely or unclearly, such as stating that the number of visitors who did not give a reply 'remains same in number next year' when the percentages are identical (5%) but the absolute population totals changed significantly. The format leans toward a descriptive summary rather than a fully developed analytical overview, placing the performance in the lower intermediate tier.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The text demonstrates some overall organization with a logical attempt to separate the table data from the survey charts, and paragraphs are initiated to group related concepts. However, there is a lack of clear progression and smooth transitions between ideas, making the progression feel mechanical. Cohesive devices are used repetitively or inaccurately, such as starting consecutive sentences with 'and this number increases' or 'while only 30 percent tourists'. Reference words are sometimes vague or confusing, as seen in phrases like 'Along with that two graphs gives us data' and 'Likewise the satisfaction increases the number of disappointed people also declined'. Paragraphing could be much more distinct to separate the overview of visitor numbers from the satisfaction level details.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the requirements of the task. The student relies on basic terms and repetitive expressions like 'number of visitors', 'alteration', and 'refurbishment'. There are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word formation, such as 'tourists visit Museum year before', 'pretty satisfied', 'aftrr', 'disappointed people', and 'much dissatisfied'. These lexical inaccuracies occasionally cause strain for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to incorporate a wider range of precise academic vocabulary and accurate collocations related to data reporting, such as proportions, demographic shifts, and descriptive adjectives for survey feedback.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The grammar is characterized by a limited range of structures and frequent errors. While there are a few simple sentences that are clear, attempts at complex or compound structures are often faulty, featuring missing articles ('visit Museum year'), incorrect prepositions, and tense inconsistencies ('tourists visit Museum year before', 'while only 30 percent tourists were satisfied year of refurbishment which inreases'). Punctuation is also neglected, with run-on sentences lacking appropriate commas or conjunctions to break up clauses. These frequent errors distract the reader and require effort to parse, keeping the structural control firmly at a lower intermediate level.
