Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of both the table and the pie charts. The student correctly notes the overall visitor numbers, moving from 74,000 to 92,000, and captures key shifts in satisfaction levels, such as the increase in very satisfied visitors from 15 to 35 percent and the drop in dissatisfied visitors from 40 to 15 percent. However, some ideas are under-developed or lack full comparison between the two periods. For instance, the discussion of the survey results could have been integrated more cohesively as an overview rather than isolated data points. To reach a higher level, the response should provide a clearer overview of the main trends at the beginning and ensure all notable changes are fully extended with precise comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement, and the information flows reasonably well from the table data to the survey charts. However, paragraphing is poorly handled, with almost the entire text squeezed into two overly dense blocks, lacking a distinct introduction and clear body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or faulty, such as starting consecutive sentences with 'As before renovation' and 'The number of very satisfied visitors has also shifted'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the abrupt cut-off at the end ('reo') disrupts the flow. To improve, the student needs to use clear paragraph breaks to separate the overview from body details and employ a wider, more natural variety of transition signals.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic trends using terms like 'visitors', 'increased', 'percentage', and 'decrease'. There are several attempts to use less common vocabulary and precise reporting language, such as 'shifted', 'sharply dropped', and 'visible decrease'. However, inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing occasionally appear, such as 'views of visitors of the Ashdown Museum' instead of 'visitor satisfaction' and 'did not give the response' instead of 'gave no response'. Spelling and word formation errors, such as 'upto' (up to), do not seriously impede communication, but to achieve a higher band, the student must demonstrate greater precision in collocations and lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures like 'while dissatisfied visitors number has shown a visible decrease'. However, there are frequent structural errors and awkward phrasing throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The figures for very dissatisfied visitors has', 'dissatisfied visitors number'), missing articles ('before renovation of museum'), and run-on sentences with incorrect comma splices ('...museum.The questions has asked...', '...increased, As before...'). Punctuation is inconsistent, and grammatical slips occasionally cause minor difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to eliminate basic agreement and punctuation errors while expanding the variety of error-free complex structures.
