Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response only partially addresses the task and fails to meet the minimum length requirement, falling short by 38 words (excluding 15 copied words from the prompt). While the writer attempts to present some key data points from the table and charts—such as the visitor numbers rising from 74,000 to 92,000 (though the writer missed including this crucial visitor number statistic entirely) and shifts in satisfaction levels like dissatisfied dropping from 40 to 15—the overall selection of information is incomplete and poorly integrated. Furthermore, the inclusion of a copied sentence from the prompt at the end indicates a lack of proper task completion and control. To reach a higher band, the writer must fully cover all parts of the visual data, including the overall visitor figures, and ensure the word count requirement is comfortably exceeded.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organization with an introductory attempt and separate paragraphs for details, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is disjointed, and sentences often feel disconnected rather than logically sequenced. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or inaccurate, such as awkward transitional phrases like 'On scrutinizing the chart it is conspicuous that' and 'Probing further toward rest of the description'. Reference pronouns are sometimes unclear, and the text ends abruptly with an orphaned instruction copied from the prompt. To improve cohesion, the writer should use smoother, standard transitional markers, ensure each paragraph has a distinct and logical focus, and maintain a clear, natural flow of ideas throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable word choice and word form errors throughout the response, such as 'depick' instead of 'depicts', 'maxiam' instead of 'maximum', and 'dicline' instead of 'declined'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'scrutinizing' and 'conspicuous', but these are often used unnaturally or coupled with spelling mistakes that cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to expand their lexical repertoire, use precise vocabulary related to data trends without relying on flawed spellings, and ensure correct word forms and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The grammatical range is quite limited, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex structures. There are frequent errors in grammar, articles, and sentence architecture, such as missing subjects or verbs (e.g., 'The satisfied were maxiam in both chart') and incorrect prepositions or verb tenses. Punctuation is also problematic, with excessive spaces and missing commas where needed to separate clauses. These frequent errors can cause strain for the reader. To improve in this area, the writer must practice constructing accurate simple and complex sentences, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, and thoroughly proofread their work to eliminate basic grammatical slips.
