Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the main parts of the prompt by summarizing both the table and the pie charts, meeting the basic requirements for task coverage. However, the development of ideas remains limited and somewhat repetitive. While the writer correctly identifies the overall rise in visitor numbers from 74,000 to 92,000, the description of survey satisfaction data contains inaccuracies and lacks a clear overview of the proportions. For instance, the text claims that 'most of the people were dissatisfied before the refurbishment' at 40 percent, but overlooks synthesizing the combined positive responses effectively. Furthermore, minor data inaccuracies appear in the breakdown, such as noting 'where 15 were very satisfied and 10 percent were very disappointed' when the percentages were different. To reach a higher band, the response would need to present a more accurate, fully developed overview of the main trends without confusing percentages and absolute figures, and ensure all key features are selected and contrasted precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response displays some organization with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, overview, and body details. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, making the structure feel disjointed in places. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, such as 'Oppose to that' and 'finally only 5% of them were ver dissapointed and had no comments respectively'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, leading to confusion about which figures belong to which category. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion within paragraphs lacks smooth logical transitions. To achieve a higher level, the writer must ensure that sentences flow logically from one to the next using accurate cohesive devices, and that the relationship between data points is signaled clearly and naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic information about the charts and table. There are frequent spelling mistakes throughout the text, including 'afte' instead of 'after', 'impovement', 'Ashdiwb Museam' (reflecting severe typos from the prompt names), 'depits', 'safisfied', 'ver', and 'dissapointed'. Word choice and word formation errors also appear, such as 'previous ones' when referring to previous survey results, and confusion between percentages and raw numbers. These noticeable errors and frequent misspellings occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and impede smooth communication. To improve, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range, pay closer attention to standard English spelling, and use precise terminology related to data description.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences joined by basic coordinating conjunctions. When the writer attempts complex structures, they are frequently faulty, such as in the run-on sentence 'In contrast, only 30 percent of the total number were safisfied, where 15 were very satisfied and 10 percent were very disappointed also 5% had no comments.' There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense consistency, and punctuation, including missing full stops and erratic capitalization. These frequent errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader. To move to a higher band, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence forms with good control over punctuation, subject-verb agreement, and clause structures.
