Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the visitor numbers from the table and the satisfaction survey results from the charts, making relevant comparisons between the two periods. However, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 134 words, falling short of the 150-word minimum. While the main features such as the overall increase in visitor numbers from 74,000 to 92,000 and the shift in satisfaction levels are identified, some ideas remain under-developed. Providing a more thorough summary of the specific survey categories would have strengthened this aspect. To reach a higher band, you must ensure you meet the minimum word count and extend your discussion of the key data points rather than simply listing the figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into an introduction, body details, and an overall summary. However, cohesion is at times faulty and mechanical. For example, transitional phrases like 'Firstly,we can see that' and 'In opposite' are either awkwardly phrased or used incorrectly to contrast data. Referencing and paragraphing are basic; the body paragraph runs several disparate ideas together without smooth logical progression. To improve, you should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and organise your sentences so that relationships between the table and chart data flow logically from one point to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but the range is limited and contains noticeable errors that reveal a lack of precision. There are several vocabulary and spelling issues, such as 'distribute' instead of 'depict' or 'illustrate', 'vistiors' (spelling error), and 'refurbishmnet' (spelling error). Furthermore, phrases like 'satisfaction level was increased' demonstrate limited collocation control. To achieve a higher band, you need to incorporate a more flexible and precise range of vocabulary, including less common lexical items related to data trends and percentages, while eliminating basic spelling and word-choice mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence forms, but control is inconsistent. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues such as 'The table provide' instead of 'provides', and missing articles or prepositions like 'numbers of visitors' and 'in both case'. Punctuation and spacing errors, such as missing spaces after commas, also detract from the overall accuracy. Although these errors rarely impede overall communication, they prevent the writing from achieving a higher level of grammatical control. To improve, focus on ensuring correct verb forms, article usage, and accurate punctuation in complex sentence structures.
