Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task partially. The writer successfully reports the key table figures (74,000 visitors before and 92,000 after) and attempts to summarize the survey data from the charts. However, the explanation of the survey results contains inaccurate figures and lacks clarity, such as stating that 'mostly people dissatisfied around 40%' instead of correctly linking the data to the specific categories of satisfaction and dissatisfaction. Furthermore, capitalization is ignored for proper nouns like 'ashdown museum', and some parts of the overview are repetitive. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to select and report data more accurately without misinterpreting proportions and ensure that all key features—such as the shift from dissatisfaction to satisfaction—are fully and clearly developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organization evident in how the text is broken down into an introduction, body paragraphs for the table and charts, and a conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression throughout the piece. The writing relies heavily on repetitive transitional phrases like 'Here, in the pie chart we can see' and 'The second pie chart is about'. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and inaccurately, leading to a disjointed reading experience. Paragraphing is attempted, but grouping sentences logically is hindered by weak referencing and abrupt shifts between ideas. To improve coherence and cohesion, the writer should use a wider variety of appropriate cohesive links to show relationships between ideas, ensure referencing is clear, and structure each paragraph around a distinct, logically developed theme.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer relies on basic and repetitive terms such as 'people', 'visit', 'satisfied', and 'dissatisfied' throughout the response. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as '74000 people visits' (incorrect word form) and 'don't give response' instead of 'no response'. Spelling errors also occur, notably 'chat' instead of 'chart' and the failure to capitalize 'ashdown museum'. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range by incorporating less common vocabulary, precise synonyms for describing data trends (e.g., proportions, percentages, majority), and accurate collocations related to statistical reporting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response features a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex or compound structures that are faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors that can cause difficulty for the reader, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'mostly people dissatisfied around 40% also 30% people is satisfied' and missing verbs or prepositions. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing periods and commas, and sentences running together. To progress to a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of grammatical structures, improve control over tense and agreement, and reduce basic errors by ensuring every sentence contains a clear subject and predicate.
