Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt by presenting an overview and reporting the key features of both the table and the charts. The overall trend in visitor numbers is clearly identified (rising from 74,000 to 92,000), and the shifts in satisfaction levels are accurately detailed. For instance, the student correctly highlights that dissatisfaction dropped from 40% to 15%, while very satisfied visitors increased from 15% to 35%. The ideas are extended and supported with relevant data, demonstrating a clear understanding of the visual material, though there is a slight tendency to over-generalise minor details rather than integrating all comparisons fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response exhibits a clear overall structure with an introduction, an overview paragraph, and body paragraphs that separate the table data from the survey results. Information and ideas are logically sequenced throughout, allowing the reader to follow the progression easily. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Looking at the table', and 'Moving on to' are employed to guide the reader through the data, although some referencing and transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, pointing toward the upper-intermediate tier without fully achieving the flexible cohesion characteristic of higher bands.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'refurbishment', 'marginally', and 'considerabely'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that prevent a higher score, including 'considerabely' (considerably), 'pi charts' (pie charts), 'dissatified' (dissatisfied), 'peeple' (people), and 'responsed' (response). While these lexical slips do not severely impede communication, they demonstrate limited control over word forms and spelling under pressure.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'The table given illustrates how many people visited...' and 'Comparing to survey after refurbishment when 40% people voted satisfied...'. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, with frequent errors in articles ('in year before', 'in year post-renovation'), preposition use ('voted satisfied with'), and capitalization ('Number of visitors'). There are also awkward phrasing choices and incomplete relative clauses that generate frequent errors, occasionally causing difficulty for the reader.
