Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main overall change: visitor numbers rose after refurbishment, and satisfaction improved, with the very satisfied share increasing from 15% to 35%. You also include several relevant figures, including 30% satisfied before and 40% after, and the unchanged 5% with no response. However, some comparisons are inaccurate: dissatisfaction did not remain constant, but fell from 40% to 15%; the 10% who were very dissatisfied before fell to 5% after. The table’s visitor totals (74,000 and 92,000) are not reported, so an important part of the task is omitted. The overview is also unclear and repeats the increase in visitor numbers rather than summarising the contrasting satisfaction pattern. Cover both visuals accurately and select the key changes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic overall structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then comparisons between the survey results. Linking expressions such as “In comparison,” “Meanwhile,” and “In contrast” show an attempt to connect information. However, progression is difficult to follow because the overview repeats the same point and the body shifts between categories without a clear order. Some links are inaccurate or confusing: “Meanwhile category of dissatisfied visitors remain constant” conflicts with the actual figures and with the later comparison. Several sentences are joined or punctuated awkwardly, which further weakens the flow. Organise the details in a consistent sequence, such as positive responses, negative responses, and no response, and use linking words only when the relationship is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “visitors,” “satisfied,” “dissatisfied,” “increased,” and “declined,” so the reader can identify the main subject and categories. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “feedback from visitors how they were satisfied,” “tourist” for museum visitors, and “after refurbished year.” Repetition of “category” and “number” also makes the account less precise. Some expressions, including “people liked to changed,” are difficult to interpret. Aim for accurate chart language and natural collocations, for example “the proportion of visitors who were satisfied” and “in the year after refurbishment.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer comparisons, but control is inconsistent, and errors frequently make the relationships between ideas harder to understand. Examples include “the most noticeable trend of tourist increased,” “its gradually increased,” and “which shown people liked to changed.” These contain problems with sentence structure, verb forms, and agreement. Articles and punctuation are also unreliable, as in “during the year before and the after refurbished year” and the lower-case sentence starts after full stops. The response relies heavily on fragments and loosely connected clauses rather than controlled complex sentences. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check tense and agreement—for example, “The number of visitors increased” and “the proportion rose.”
