Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main overall changes: visitor numbers rose from 74,000 to 92,000, and satisfaction generally improved after refurbishment. You also report several relevant survey figures, including very satisfied visitors increasing from 15 to 35 and dissatisfied visitors falling from 40 to 15. However, some data are misreported or unclear: the satisfied group rose from 30 to 40, not fell from 10 to 5, and the very dissatisfied group fell from 10 to 5. The final claim of a “high jump to 25” is also confusing; the decrease in dissatisfied visitors was 25 percentage points. The response covers the main topic but gives an incomplete and sometimes inaccurate account of the survey results. Select the key comparisons carefully and state them precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is an attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction and overview before moving to details. The overview also gives the reader a useful sense of the main trends. However, the body does not progress clearly: visitor totals, satisfaction categories and changes are mixed together, and the final sentence repeats the decline in dissatisfaction without explaining the comparison cleanly. Linking words such as “moreover,” “in addition” and “also” are used, but they do not always show the relationship between ideas. Paragraphing and clearer sequencing would help: describe visitor numbers first, then compare the satisfaction categories, grouping positive and negative responses. Use references such as “the proportion of satisfied visitors” rather than unclear phrases like “it was in past year.”

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You attempt relevant task vocabulary, including “refurbishment,” “visitor satisfaction,” “proportions” and “declined,” and these choices show awareness of the chart topic. However, spelling errors are frequent, as in “illustraite,” “compairisons,” “satisfiction” and “dicresed,” and they make the response harder to read. Some word choices and combinations are also inaccurate or unclear: “the after year,” “satisfied visitors are 10” and “high jump to 25” do not express the intended comparisons naturally. Build accuracy with common chart language before reaching for more elaborate phrasing. For example, use “the following year,” “the proportion of satisfied visitors rose to 40%,” and “fell by 25 percentage points.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentences, including “Overall, it can be seen that…” and a clause beginning “while the proportions… declined.” However, sentence structures are often faulty, and errors can make relationships between figures difficult to follow. For example, “According to the survey, that compairs to the after year 92000 visitors” does not form a clear grammatical comparison, while “the very satisfided it was in past year just 15” lacks a clear subject and verb structure. Articles and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “at ashdown museum” and the run-on final sentence. Use complete, direct patterns such as “The number of visitors increased from 74,000 to 92,000” and check that each sentence has a clear subject and verb.
