Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main subject and report the visitor total rising from 74,000 to 92,000, and you attempt to compare satisfaction before and after refurbishment. However, several survey figures are inaccurate: before refurbishment, 30% were satisfied and 10% very dissatisfied, not the reverse; the non-response figure is 5%, which you leave blank. After refurbishment, very satisfied was 35%, not 36%, and the final comparison is cut off at “fifteen to thirty.” The response also lacks a clear overview of the main pattern, such as satisfaction improving overall while dissatisfaction declined. Select the most important changes accurately and summarise them in a complete overview before giving supporting figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the visuals, discusses the period before refurbishment, then the period after, and begins a comparison. This gives the reader some organisation. However, progression is weakened by formulaic transitions such as “first of all,” “now we will elaborate,” and “at the end,” which announce sections rather than clearly linking the data. The final comparison is unfinished, and the overview is not separated from the detailed reporting, so the main message is difficult to identify. Use a clear paragraph structure—introduction, overview, and two concise detail paragraphs—and connect comparisons directly, for example by contrasting the rise in satisfaction with the fall in dissatisfaction.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary, including “refurbishment,” “visitors,” “surveys,” and “dissatisfied,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “the outcomes of surveys,” “just satisfied,” and “huge fluctuation.” “Fluctuation” does not accurately describe a straightforward increase, and “just satisfied” is not the chart’s category label. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “ellaborate,” “responce,” and “refurbisment.” Use the exact satisfaction categories and practise common chart-reporting collocations, such as “the proportion of visitors who were satisfied” and “rose from … to …,” to make the account more precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences awkward. For example, “after the refurbishment it was increased to 92,000” uses an incorrect passive form; write “it increased to 92,000.” In “there were huge fluctuation,” the noun phrase has an agreement and number problem, while “people whom did not responded” combines an incorrect relative pronoun with an incorrect verb form. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable, with several long sentences joined by “and” and inconsistent capitalisation after full stops. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build shorter, complete comparison sentences before attempting longer structures.
