Student answer (Band 5.0)

The pie chart illustrates the amount of vistors to Ashdown Museum during the year before and the year after it was refurbished. The pie chart presents the results of surveys asking visitors how happy they were with their visit. Overall, the eye-catching feature is how people are immensely satisfied after the refurbishment of museum .

Moreover, there is also an increase in the number of people who are very satisfies after the refurbishment of the museum. To add on there is a decrease in the number of people who were not satisfied with the museum. However the number of people with no response is still the same .

In conlusion, the refurbishment is a positive step for the museum as the number of visitors increased gradually and most of them were satisfied with the changes made in the museum.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad positive change after refurbishment, noting increased visitor numbers and improved satisfaction, and correctly state that the no-response figure stayed the same. However, the response only partially reports the visual data: it gives no figures, omits the total visitor counts of 74,000 and 92,000, and does not clearly compare the satisfaction categories. The overview claim that people were “immensely satisfied” is too general without showing that satisfaction rose from 45% to 75%, while dissatisfaction fell from 50% to 20%. The response is also 26 words below the required minimum, which limits the detail available. Include the key figures and a concise overview of the main contrasts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable overall shape, moving from an introduction to an overview and then a concluding statement. The ideas about increased satisfaction, reduced dissatisfaction and unchanged non-response are relevant. However, progression is limited because the body does not organise or compare the data in a clear sequence, and the conclusion largely repeats the overview. Linking phrases such as “Moreover,” “To add on” and “However” are used, but they do not consistently show precise relationships between the points. The opening also repeats “The pie chart” and leaves the reader without a clear distinction between the visitor total and survey results. Group the figures into before-and-after comparisons and use linking words only where they clarify the relationship.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “refurbishment,” “visitors,” “satisfied” and “no response,” so the main topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or informal for an academic summary. “Pie chart” is repeated, although the task includes a table and survey charts, and “how happy they were” is less precise than describing satisfaction levels. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including “vistors,” “satisfies” and “conlusion.” Phrases such as “eye-catching feature” and “immensely satisfied” sound overstated rather than objective. Use precise terms for the categories and figures, and check spelling and word forms before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You produce several understandable simple sentences and attempt some longer structures, for example, “Overall, the eye-catching feature is how people are immensely satisfied after the refurbishment of museum.” However, the range is limited, and errors recur in sentence construction and grammatical forms. The phrase “after the refurbishment of museum” is missing an article, while “the number of people who are very satisfies” has faulty agreement and form. Punctuation and spacing are also inconsistent, with spaces before full stops in “museum .” and “same .” The final sentence joins ideas with “as” but does not clearly express the comparison. Practise accurate article use, agreement and sentence boundaries, then build longer comparisons from those reliable patterns.
