Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the museum and refurbishment periods, but it does not adequately summarise the visual information. It mislabels the visitor figures as being shown in a “pie chart” and reports 920,000 after refurbishment, whereas the table gives 92,000. The satisfaction results—the main content of the charts—are not described, so the key changes from mostly dissatisfied visitors before refurbishment to mostly satisfied visitors afterwards are missing. There is also no clear overview of the main trends. The response is substantially below the required 150 words, leaving too little information to address the task beyond a brief, partly inaccurate statement. To improve, report the visitor totals accurately, summarise the major satisfaction shifts, and include an overview supported by relevant figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: the opening refers to the charts, and “overall” introduces a summary statement. However, the ideas are not developed into a clear sequence, and the relationship between the visitor total and the satisfaction survey remains unclear. The opening says the chart shows visitor numbers, then refers to a separate survey, but no survey findings follow. The response consists of only two short sentences, with no paragraphing to distinguish an introduction, overview, and details. Build a simple progression: introduce both visuals, give the main overall trends, then compare the key figures. Use linking words only where they clarify how the information relates.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a small set of relevant terms, including “visitors,” “satisfaction,” and “refurbishment,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the vocabulary is limited and some choices are inaccurate or imprecise: “pie chart” does not describe the table of visitor totals, and “tourist satisfaction” is less suitable than “visitor satisfaction” in this context. “Feedback survey” also does not clearly name the survey results. The phrase “total number of guests” is understandable, but repeating precise chart terminology would make the report clearer. Aim to use accurate labels such as “table,” “survey results,” and “satisfaction levels,” and vary reporting verbs with options such as “rose,” “fell,” and “accounted for.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response shows some control of basic sentence forms, and the contrast introduced by “While” indicates an attempt to connect related ideas. However, the opening fragment, “While the chart survey displays the tourist satisfaction,” is not a complete sentence because the subordinate clause has no main clause. The first sentence also combines two ideas with a full stop in a way that leaves the second as a fragment. In “total number of guests were,” the singular subject “number” requires a singular verb. Capitalisation is inconsistent, as “overall” begins a sentence in lowercase. Use complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, check agreement, and vary simple structures with accurate comparisons—for example, stating how totals changed between the two periods.
